Several local girls wrestlers made history Friday as they competed in the first ever New York State Girls Wrestling Invitational at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.

At the end of the day three local wrestlers from Adirondack League schools found themselves on the podium at the event. 

Salem-Cambridge freshman Maddie Palulis placed fourth at 94 pounds. and Warrensburg-Lake George senior Grace York finished sixth at 107 pounds. Granville sophomore Jaymie Landon was sixth at 145. 

Palulis was pinned by Camden’s Riley Meagher in the consolation in 2:49. She won her consolation semifinal 13-0 over Oneonta’s Jay Karns.

York dropped a 5-1 decision to Sidney’s Isabella Phelps in the fifth place match. 

Landon lost by fall in the fifth-place match to Lewiston-Porter’s Meaghan Edwards, giving her sixth place and a spot on the podium. 

Salem-Cambridge’s Mattison Jackson at 165 and Granville’s Kalyn Gould at 235 both went 2-2 in the tournament. 

Olivia LaPoint of Warrensburg-Lake George went 1-2 at 152. 

Two Section II wrestlers came home with titles. Senior Zoey Lints of Duanesburg-Schoharie won the championship at 138. Shenendehowa junior Isabella Gretzinger earned the crown at 152.
