The Whitehall Town Planning Board has approved a site plan that will allow a local business to relocate from its current location at the Whitehall Marina to a property on the corner of U.S. Route 4 and County Route 9B.

“We’ve outgrown the Whitehall Marina – by far,” Bill Pearo, owner of Got It Covered Canvas Products, told the board at its Dec. 28 meeting.

The new location will feature a 12-by-12-foot building facing Route 4 that will house its office space and a 24-by-24-foot pole barn toward the rear of the property that will serve as a work and storage facility, Pearo told the board. Customers to the site will not be allowed in the work area, he noted.

Got It Covered provides boat covers, boat and porch enclosures, awnings, marine carpeting, upholstery and cushion replacement, and other services.

The site will have entrances on both Route 4 and Route 9B, Pearo said. Increased traffic from the business will not be an issue, as many of the company’s jobs are performed offsite and only a few vehicles are expected to visit the business each day, he said.

Pearo also assured the board he intends to keep the business well-maintained – a failure that has plagued other properties in the community.

“We want to look sharp,” he said.

Board members had no comments or questions after Pearo’s presentation and voted 3-0 to approve the site plan. Board chairman Andre Hagadorn was absent and secretary Greg Chappell abstained because he owns property near the site that could be affected by the relocation.

The board also agreed to schedule a public hearing on a site plan review for the proposed Waters Creek Country Store for 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25.
