After a successful meet in Middlebury the Granville wrestling team was right back at it on Saturday when they made the short trek across the Vermont border for the Slater Duals in Fair Haven. The Golden Horde faced off against Mount Anthony, Fair Haven, Springfield, Colchester and Oneonta in dual meets.
The Slater Duals have been a New Year’s Eve tradition for 31 years.
Granville finished the day with a record of 4-1, defeating Fair Haven, Springfield, Colchester and Oneonta, while falling to Green Mountain State powerhouse Mount Anthony.
The Golden Horde placed in second place overall for the meet.
“It was a fantastic finish for second place,” Granville coach Steve Palmer said. “The day was loaded with difficult match pairings to get some matchups for team wins.
Granville defeated Springfield 66-12, Fair Haven 48-9, Colchester, 35-33 and Oneonta 42-30.
Mount Anthony defeated the Golden Horde 56-16. The Patriots own a national record of 33 straight Vermont State Champioships.
“We pinned where we had to toughed out some non-pin losses for our team points,” Palmer added.
Mount Anthony went 5-0 to claim the tournament title, continuing their dominance against opponents on both side of the border.
Fair Haven combined wth Mill River for the meet, Fair Haven/Mill River’s best match was a 36-36 tie with Springfiled. The merged team fell to Mount Anthony, Granville,Colchester and Oneonta.
