Good Morning! With the Border Country Sports Report for today, I’m Keith Harrington. 

Granville Wrestlers Shine at Hubie Wagner Tournament 

The Granville wrestling team had a strong showing at the 50th Annual Hubie Wagner Tournament in Middlebury, Vermont. 

The Golden Horde placed third as a team in the 19 team field. 

All but two of the matches won by Granville wrestlers were by pin. 

“It’s a very fun year,” Granville coach Steve Palmer said. “Pretty extraordinary.” 

Brent Perry won the title at 195 pounds for the Golden Horde. 

Perry went 5-0 before winning his semifinal by a 6-0 decision. In the championship round, he pinned his opponent in 4:53. 

Nathan Barber at 138 pounds and Jaxon Torres at 145 pounds also reached the finals before collecting second place finishes. 

 Brandon Beaver placed third at 170 and AJ Landon was third at 182. Nick Crum was fourth at 132.

Scott Wittman lost in the quarterfinals and Timothy Lotz lost in the consolation semifinals for the Golden Horde. 

Blue Devils Take Down Proctor on the Road 

Whether it be basketball or soccer the Proctor Phantoms have been a nemesis for the Poultney Blue Devils. Maybe the tide is turning? After defeating the Phantoms in soccer this past fall, the Blue Devils finally beat them on the hardwood Thursday night, going on the road and coming home with a 51-39 victory at the Buggiani Gymnasium. 

Poultney trailed 4-0 early but closed the first quarter on a 13-4 run. 

The Blue Devils used a strong defensive effort, control of the boards and sharp 3-point shooting to lead by 20 at the break. 

The Phantoms played better in the second half but could not eliminate the early deficit. 

Hannah Welch led Poultney’s balanced attack with 12 points. Welch had a double-double, pulling down 11 boards as well. 

Emily Handley added nine points, while Jackie Oberg had eight points and 10 boards.

Jenna Davine led Proctor with 24 points. 

Poultney is 5-1 on the season. Proctor is 0-3. 

Argyle-Fort Edward Girls Nab First Win

The Argyle-Fort Edward girls basketball team nabbed their first win of the season, defeating Bishop Gibbons 52-49 in a non-league contest. 

Kylee Humiston led the Scots with 22 points, six assists and five steals. 

Raegan Humiston finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Argyle-Fort Edward. 

Angelina Deitz had 17 points for Bishop Gibbons. 

Argyle-Fort Edward is now 1-6. Bishop Gibbons is 3-4. 

Slaters Roll Past Rival Blue Devils

Fair Haven raced out to a big first quarter lead and went on to roll past rival Poultney 70-21 in boys basketball. 

The Slaters led 24-4 after a quarter and were up 28 at the half. 

Phil Bean led Fair Haven with 16 points.  Sam Barber and Sawyer Ramey.contributed 10 points each. 

Peyton Book had six points and 11 rebounds for Poultney. 

Fair Haven is 5-0. Poultney is 1-4.
