Locals Perform Well at Whitehall Ladies Scuffle

Several local wrestlers performed well at the Whitehall Ladies Scuffle Wrestling Tournament Tuesday in Whitehall. The event was one of the first ever all girls high school wrestling events to be contested locally. 

Adirondack League wrestlers to claim titles in their weight category included Warrensburg-Lake George’s Grace York (114 pounds), Salem-Cambridge’s Maddie Palulis (100) and Taylor Cary (132), and Granville’s Jaymie Landon (145).

ADK wrestlers who reached the finals and recorded second place finishes were Salem-Cambridge’s Ella Palulis (100), Molly Maxwell (107) and Rachel Lewis (152), Warrensburg-Lake George’s Olivia Lapoint and Granville’s Kaylyn Gould (235). 

Third place finishers were Whitehall’s Emma Kelly (107) and Jaydah Sherwood (152) and Salem-Cambridge’s Layla Baldwin (120). 

The event featured 10 teams, nine from Section II and one from Vermont. 

Blue Devils Bounce Back with Win 

The Poultney girls basketball team bounced back from their first loss of the season, making the long haul to Bellows Falls and coming home with a 56-42 win. 

The Blue Devils led just 22-19 at the half, but pulled away over the final 16 minutes. 

Emily Handley had the hot hand for Poultney, pouring in 15 points on five 3-pointers. 

Hailey Hayes added 13 points for the Blue Devils. 

Delaney Lockerby led the Terriers with eight points. 

Poultney is now 4-1 on the season. 

Warrensburg Advances in Spa Catholic Tournament 

Warrensburg advanced to the championship game of the 46th annual Saratoga Catholic Christmas Tournament with a 68-46 win over Loudonville Christian Tuesday night. 

Brady Cheney scored a career-best 23 points to lead the Burghers to the victory. 

Evan Lapell added 18 points. Stevie Schloss had 16 and Caden Allen chipped in with nine points for Warrensburg. Lapell and Cheney both had double-doubles for the Burghers. 

Jared Pratt led the Eagles with 18 points.  Michael Marshall had 12. 

Warrensburg will play Saratoga Catholic in tonight’s championship game. 

Warrensburg is now 6-1 on the season.

Tigers Roll Over Schuylerville 

Hudson Falls used a solid effort on defense to roll over Schuylerville 70-30 in a Foothills Council makeup game. The Tigers held the Black Horses to 19 points through three quarters. 

Peyton Smith finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds for Hudson Falls. The Tigers also got  14 points from freshman Brady Smith, and nine points each from Noah Williamson and Noah Tyler. 

Luke Sherman paced Schuylerville with 13 points. Griffin Brophy added eight points for the Black Horses. 

Hudson Falls is now 3-0, 5-0. Schuylerville is 1-3, 1-3.
