Pawlet, Vermont – Betsy Moore, 95, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at the home in which she was born in Pawlet, Vermont.
Betsy Ann was born on April 25, 1927, in Pawlet, the daughter of Herbert and Luella (Phillips) Croff. She was a 1945 graduate of Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester. She then attended Albany Business College. She worked for a brief time in Albany before moving back to Pawlet and marrying John Faxon Moore. They had two daughters Elaine and Carol and a son John.
Betsy was one of the original crew at The Station Restaurant in Pawlet. For 32 years she made the grill her own; everyone knew Betsy! Customers had better make it in the door a minimum of 15 minutes before closing or they would be tasked with prepping for the next day.
After leaving the Station, Betsy became the famous “Grandma Betsy” at Meadow Wee Day Care. She was a huge asset to Lisa Moore who still runs the day care. Kids now in their teens and older still remember Betsy’s pizzas and cinnamon buns. Her family even had her recipe immortalized on a J.K. Adams cutting board.
Betsy loved traveling and seeing new places. She enjoyed road trips and camping with her kids across the United States and even climbed Mount Katahdin in Maine.
Her children will remember their mother as always wanting to help others and never saying no to trying anything new. She allowed them to grow up as their own people, supported their choices and loved them always. She will be greatly missed by many.
She is survived by her children Elaine Atnip (Ray), Carol Moore, John Moore (Lisa); grandchildren Megan Bishop (Joe and Baby Bishop!), Kayla Moore and Ethan Moore; and nieces and nephews.
Betsy’s wish is that donations be made to the Pawlet Scholarships Committee, PO Box 206, Pawlet, VT 05761. Her grandchildren benefitted from this local program, as have many Pawlet residents.
A celebration of Betsy’s life was held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2022, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Pawlet Town Hall.
