Whitehall girls open with soccer loss

By Keith Harrington

The Whitehall girls soccer team enters the 2022 season with high expectations, with nearly their entire roster returning after a competitive campaign a year ago.

The Railroaders opened their season on their home pitch Tuesday, though, and had their hands full as Whitehall was blanked by Schoharie 9-0 in a non-league match.

The Indians proved to be too much to handle for Whitehall. Schoharie won the Section II Class C title last year with a 3-2 upset over top-seeded Waterford-Halfmoon, and it appears they won’t miss a beat this season.

Haley Drinon led the way for Schoharie with four goals and six assists.

Briana Repscher added two goals and two assists for the Indians.

Khloe Paddock stopped 17 shots in goal for Whitehall.

Schoharie is 1-0. Whitehall is 0-1.

The Ticonderoga girls soccer team must be feeling a little jinxed against Adirondack League opponents to begin the season. After falling to Fort Ann 1-0 in double overtime a couple of days ago, the Sentinels fell to Whitehall 1-0 in the final minutes of a non-league contest Thursday.

The Railroaders and Ticonderoga were locked in a 0-0 game with under three minutes to go. Ava Ruby then found the back of the net for the game-winner with 2:48 to play to hand Whitehall the win.

Whitehall is now 1-1 on the season. Ticonderoga is 0-2.
