Out of the Box Worship Center will host its Back-to-School Makeover this coming weekend, Saturday, Sept. 3 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Whitehall Rec Center. Pastor Pamela Bolton has worked with others to schedule the event for students.
“It’s all about giving them more confidence,” Bolton said about the free event.
The students who attend will be able to get not only back to school supplies, but also hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes and paste, hair ties and clips, and many more items.
“We collect brand new school supplies for the students and will have them all laid out for them to choose what they want,” she said.
More than 20 students who attended last year received free haircuts from licensed hairdressers and there will be the opportunity to get a fresh haircut before returning to school. Bolton said that giving haircuts does nothing but boost confidence before the first day back.
“We had two hairdressers, and we were able to give all the kids who signed up a haircut with the timeframe that we had for the day,” she said.
Leftovers were not a problem for last year’s back-to-school makeover as Bolton mentioned that they were worrying about running out of supplies. However, if there are leftovers this year, they won’t be going to waste.
“Let’s say there are a lot of brand-new socks and underwear left, we would take those to the school nurse if we had a lot of supplies leftover. Last year with what we had left of socks and underwear, a volunteer said that she worked at the school, and they could use them in the nurse’s office. Everything will find a home,” she said.
