Whitehall, New York – Kenneth N. Shoemaker III, 67, passed away at Albany Medical Center following complications due to heart surgery.
Ken was born on Oct. 1, 1954, the son of Mary (Caputo) and Kenneth Shoemaker.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy. He was very proud of the time he served in the military. He also was a Washington County Sheriff’s Department correction officer. He always said “you have to give respect to get respect, no matter the situation.”
He was the kind of guy that if something needed to be fixed or built or if you just needed an ear to listen to you, he was the man to go to.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepmother Barbara and his sister Linda.
He is survived by his ex-wife Marlinda Burr, whom he never stopped loving until his death, and their two sons Kenneth and Jeremy, his sister Melissa Pigliavento, brother Keith Shoemaker and his special friend Amy Michaud. Amy looked after him as only a caretaker could, and her son Tyler was his buddy, along with a few close friends whom he dearly loved. They know who they are. And of course his veteran friends with whom he kept in contact over the years.
At Ken’s request there will be no services. Donations in Ken’s name may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Ken’s arrangements are under the care of the Jillson Funeral Home Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall, New York.
