Hartford wins doubleheader over Granville

After a slow start the Hartford Tri-County softball team is beginning to round into form, sweeping a doubleheader last Thursday over Granville, winning game one 13-10 and the nightcap 11-5.

In the opener, Hartford fashioned a 5-1 lead after the first inning, but Granville scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings to knot the game at 5-5.

Hartford scored five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 9-5 advantage, but Granville answered with five in the frame to take a 10-9 lead.

Hartford responded with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and shut down Granville the rest of the way.

Brynn Tyler picked up the pitching win for Hartford with four strikeouts.

Madalyn Benson was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for Hartford. Tyler also drove in a trio of runs.

Megan Decker was 3 for 3 for Granville with a home run, triple and four RBIs. Maddie Wilson was 2 for 2 with an RBI. Rachel Beaver tripled and drove in a run. Katherine Hyatt also contributed a hit.

In the second game, Hartford used a five-run fourth inning to pull away for the sweep. Hartford led 5-3 after three innings.

Vanessa Muller earned the win in the circle with seven strike outs.

Sierra McDermott was 2 for 3 for Hartford with two RBIs. Felicity Columbetti doubled and knocked in a run.

Decker again led the way for Granville, going 3 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs. Wilson was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Allie Gonzalez was 1 for 3.

Hartford improved to 3-5-1. Granville dropped to 2-9.


Hartford posts consecutive walk-off wins

It doesn’t matter if it’s Little League or Major League baseball, a walk-off win is always exciting. How about two walk-off victories on back-to-back nights? That’s exactly what the Hartford Tri-County Middle League baseball team did last Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Daman Duhame singled to drive in a pair of runs to hand Hartford a 10-9 win over Fort Ann.

Hartford raced out to a commanding 8-0 lead through five innings before Fort Ann rallied to plate four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh and take a 9-8 lead, setting up the heroics of Duhame.

Joe Allen had a strong outing on the bump for Hartford with nine strikeouts and Jace Venner came on in relief to pick up the win.

Marcus Stowhas doubled for Fort Ann. Alejandro Stowhas tripled.

On Thursday, Hartford again rallied in the seventh, this time for an 8-7 win over Salem-Cambridge.

Hartford got out to a 5-3 lead but found themselves trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh. A bases-loaded single by John Gauthier brought Hartford from behind.

Spencer Fehl chipped in three RBIs for Hartford. Duhame added a double.

Kile Whitney was the winning pitcher for Hartford.

Stephen Yakubec pitched three innings of scoreless relief for Salem-Cambridge and went 2 for 2 at the plate.
