Granville wins first summer softball game

It was a busy week for the Granville Tri-County League softball team, which earned its first victory of the season but lost three other games.
Salem fell behind after two innings but rallied to defeat Granville, 16-13, in a wild TCML softball contest.
Granville scored four runs in the first and five in the second to lead 9-1 but Salem responded with 14 runs over the third, fourth and fifth innings to take control and fought off Granville the rest of the way.
Granville outhit Salem 15-10 but was hindered by seven errors.
Riley Gallagher was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Salem. Bella Eastman was 2 for 4. Mya Winslow was 2 for 3 with a homer and a double. Reagan Jackson was 2 for 3 and drove in a run.
Gallagher picked up the win in the circle.
Courtney Ennis was 3 for 4 with five RBIs for Granville. Megan Decker was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs. Rachel Beaver was 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs. McKenna McKnight was 2 for 3 with a triple and drove in a run. Allie Gonzalez was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Salem is 5-0, Granville 0-4.
Later in the week Granville picked up its first win of the season, splitting a doubleheader with Ticonderoga. Granville won game 11-8 while Ticonderoga won the nightcap 14-12.
In the opener Granville scored 10 runs in the final two innings to take the 11-8 victory, with five runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth of the five-inning contest.
Decker earned the win in the circle, scattering seven hits and striking out nine.
A three-run triple by McKnight and RBI singles by Maddie Wilson and Decker helped Granville blow the game open.
Decker went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Katherine Hyatt was 2 for 3.
Ellah Slattery doubled and drove in a run for Ticonderoga. Addison Hurlburt tripled. Myleigh Drinkwine added an RBI.
In the second game Ticonderoga pulled away with a big fifth inning, then held off Granville for a 14-12 win.
Ticonderoga led 9-6 but scored five times in the top of the fifth to fashion a seemingly comfortable 14-6 lead.
Granville rallied for six runs in the bottom of the frame but came up just a bit short.
Sophia Johndrow was the winning pitcher for Ticonderoga.
Drinkwine was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Ticonderoga. Alyssa Mydlarz was 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Decker was 2 for 3 with a home run, triple and four RBIs for Granville. Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a double and drove in a pair of runs. Courtney Ennis was 1 for 3 with an RBI. MaKenzie Garrison added an RBI.
Ticonderoga is now 3-3. Granville is 1-5.
Granville closed the hectic week with a loss to Salem, which used an eight-run fifth inning to roll past Granville 17-4 in TCML softball.
Salem led 9-4 after three innings then blew the game open with the productive fifth.
Bella Eastman earned the win in the circle to improve to 8-1 on the season. Eastman struck out eight.
Olivia Crosier was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Riley Gallagher was 3 for 4 with a triple and six RBIs. Eastman was 2 for 2 and Kady Crosier also drove in a run.
For Granville, Decker was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Wilson and Melody Schinski added RBIs. Ennis and Garrison both contributed hits.
Salem is 8-1. Granville is 1-6.
