Granville, New York – Richard Ottenburgh, age 86, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the Slate Valley Center following a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1935, in Dresden, New York, the son of the late Otto and Marion (Deidrich) Ottenburgh.

Richard worked for Washington County for more than 30 years as a custodian in various county-owned properties. He worked at Granville Head Start, which was where he had the good fortune of meeting Kim. Other locations were Dix Avenue Head start, the county building and the county courthouse.

Richard enjoyed walking. He would walk for miles, from Putnam to Whitehall, just for the heck of it. He enjoyed painting and drawing as well as woodworking. He loved his family beyond measure. Even when Kim got on his nerves, he loved her unconditionally. Richard was forever grateful for the inclusion of his six sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law in their large family gatherings.

Richard was predeceased by his parents and his beloved wife of 40 years Kimberly (White) Ottenburgh (Dec. 14, 2022). Survivors are his biological daughter Amanda Ottenburgh (Dennis) of Greenwich and his stepdaughter whom he raised for 44 years as his own Kelly Bain (Richard Jr.) of Middle Granville. Richard was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He leaves behind a brother Otto “Stubby” Ottenburgh (Sandy) of Watervliet, New York.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
