Evelyn Lee Towne

Granville, New York – Evelyn Lee Towne, 88, passed away on Tuesday April 19, 2022, at the Granville Center following a short illness.

Evelyn was born on April 12, 1934, in Granville, the daughter of the late Raymond Alonzo and Hazel (Morehouse) Lee.

She was a 1952 graduate of Granville Central Schools. She was married for 39 years to Raymond Towne.

Evelyn worked in a local sewing shop in Granville prior to being employed at Mallinckrodt for many years, where she worked alongside her husband and her daughters Martha and Emily. She made many wonderful friendships during her time there.

She enjoyed her flower beds and reading every cookbook she could get her hands on from cover to cover. Evelyn loved shopping trips to Manchester, Vermont, with Martha and Emily. On Missy’s days off, they often baked cookies. She could talk for days about a side-by-side ride Eric took her on, and she looked forward to Sunday dinner with Philip, Judy and their extended family. She loved everything to do with her family and cherished her time spent with them.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, her husband Raymond, and her first-born son Kenneth Richard Towne. She was dearly loved by her children: Martha Gordon (Joe) of Fort Ann, the twins Eric Lee Towne (Roberta) and Emily Lorraine Martell (Melvin) all of Granville, Melissa Mae Towne of South Glens Falls, Philip Wayne Towne (Judy) and Kenny’s widow, Paula Buzzell Towne also of Granville. She leaves behind a brother Philip Lee and sister Ethel Mae Peterson both of Granville. Evelyn was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, at the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St. in Granville. Calling hours for friends were from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial followed the funeral at the Morningside Cemetery in Hartford. Those honoring Evelyn as bearers were Edward Evans, Melvin Martell, Michael Martell, Jordan Corey, Matthew Newton and Seamus Cartmell.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Evelyn’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
