Granville loses to Hudson Falls, 3-0

By Keith Harrington

The Granville and Hudson Falls baseball teams were scheduled to face each other at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, but Mother Nature had other plans as she dumped a few inches of snow on the area, forcing the game to be postponed.

The game ended up being played last Thursday on the Tigers’ home diamond. Hudson Falls jumped out to an early lead and went on to blank the Golden Horde 3-0 in a non-league contest. It was the first loss of the season for Granville.

Hudson Falls plated a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage and it turned out to be all the offense the Tigers would need as pitchers Connor Rogers and Xavier Schwan combined to silence the Golden Horde bats.

Rogers went 4 1/3 innings in the mound, striking out three to earn the shutout win. Schwan closed out the game, pitching 2 2/3 innings and recording four strikeouts.

The Tigers cushioned their lead with a pair of runs in the third inning and Granville could not put together a rally.

Both teams finished the game with six hits, but Hudson Falls was more productive with runners in scoring position.

Mike Sullivan, Jesse Mullis and Cody Lewis knocked in runs for the Tigers.

Caleb Nelson had a pair of hits for Granville. Alex Torres and Conner Farrell also contributed hits.

Nelson struck out six for the Golden Horde.

Granville is now 4-1 on the season. Hudson Falls is 1-5.
