Whitehall tops Salem, 47-44, in finale

Whitehall held off Salem in a hard-fought battle as the Railroaders came away with a 47-44 win in Adirondack League boys basketball to close out the regular season.

The Railroaders led by seven after three quarters but Salem closed in with a 17-13 final stanza, coming up just short.

Whitehall led 11-9 after a quarter and 25-20 at the half, led by Latrell Evans with 16 points. Brandon Bakerian added nine points and six rebounds.

Connor Chilson had 16 points and five rebounds for Salem. Altwon Webster added 12 for the Generals.

Whitehall moved to 8-6, 11-7.

On Thursday night Whitehall played the first of its two Adirondack League crossover games as they hosted Hadley-Luzerne. The game was close all the way and the Railroaders sneaked out a 61-59 win.

Whitehall grabbed a 14-13 lead after a quarter and a 15-13 second quarter made it 29-26 Railroaders at the half.

A 19-15 third quarter advantage for the Eagles gave them a one-point edge heading to the fourth, where Whitehall used a 17-14 edge to earn the victory.

Evans and Cash Burgey tallied 17 points each for Whitehall. Landon Stevens contributed eight points.

Josh Foley had 17 points for Hadley-Luzerne. Caedan Wilson and Alex Mattison chipped in 11 points each.

Whitehall raised its mark to 12-7. Hadley-Luzerne fell to 8-11.
