Wells students collect for animals

The students in Mrs. Ray’s second-grade class at Wells Village School have been busy this month. They are in the process of collecting canned and dry pet food, blankets, dog beds, dishes, leashes and more for the Rutland County Humane Society.

“For many years I’ve done a collection for the humane society in my classroom around the holidays instead of a gift exchange,” Ray said. “My students are always super excited about it because they all love animals.”

“The kids are bringing in bags and bags of stuff every day. They are really looking forward to giving to the animals at the shelter,” Ray said. “The society always runs short of linens, so students can ask their parents if they have any old blankets, sheets and towels to contribute.”

“This class in particular has been extremely giving this year. We’re definitely having a larger-than-normal donation by the kids. I’ve told them I’ll have to borrow my husband’s truck to take everything to the society,” she laughed.

The students will continue to collect supplies until Christmas break, Ray said. “They’re in school until Dec. 23, and so I’ll take everything over to the society during vacation.”
