Peter Thomas Haskins

Dorset, Vermont – Peter Thomas Haskins, 64, beloved husband of Vickie and loving father of Kaitlyn and Alexis, died from complications of Covid on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Peter was born Aug. 1, 1957, in Granville, New York, to Edgar and Alice (LaFountain) Haskins.

On May 20, 1978, he married Vickie Baker, moved to Dorset and began their life together.

He is survived by his wife and business partner Vickie; daughters Kaitlyn and Alexis; brother Roger (Diane) of Essex Junction, Vermont; and sister Mary of Brooksville, Florida. Peter also leaves his in-laws Tim and Mary Baker of Dorset and Port Orange, Florida; sister-in-law Kellie Baker-Waite of Pawlet, Vermont; and brother-in-law Dale (Sherrie) of Wells, Vermont. Peter was uncle to Emily and Lilly Waite, Nicholas and Zachary Baker, Carol and Amy Haskins, Leslie Haskins and Sarah Desormier.

Peter received his education in Pawlet and graduated from Granville High School in 1975.

At the early age of 6 his first job was gathering eggs at the Moore Egg Farm in Pawlet. During his teen years he worked for Ralph Sheldon Construction, moving on to Baker Trucking in Dorset after meeting his soon-to-be bride Vickie. At a very young age he figured out that with determination and good old-fashioned hard work he could achieve absolutely anything, and so it began in 1980 that Peter and Vickie purchased the small 75-customer propane business from his parents. Working side by side they built the business to what it is today with more than 6,000 customers. With his “can-do” attitude he designed and built one of the largest propane pipelines in New England located at Stratton Mountain. He also spent countless hours designing and constructing a propane rail terminal located in North Dorset.

Peter was never at a loss for words and always eager to share his unlimited wealth of knowledge to those around him.

His peaceful and serene place was at their lake house with family and friends, having a cocktail, relaxing in his hammock and sharing what was so special to him.

In addition to the propane business, Peter and Vickie also own and operate Dorset RV Park, Hasgas General Store and Haskins Fuel Company.

Peter was predeceased by his parents; siblings Pam, Susie and Eddie; nephew Robbie; and brother-in-law Matt Waite.
