Marlene E. Stoddard

Granville, New York – Marlene E. Stoddard, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Marlene was born on Sept. 17, 1936, in Middle Granville, New York, the firstborn child of the late Raymond and Effie (Durkee) Douglas.

Marlene attended Granville Public School for grades 1-8 and Hartford Central School from 8-12 and graduated with the Class of 1954. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1653 in Granville for many years.

She did domestic work for 40 years in many area homes and businesses. She was an avid modified dirt racing fan and always looked forward to the culmination of the summer racing by attending Super Dirt Week formerly held at the New York State Fairgrounds. This was a fall ritual for 20 years with family and friends.

Marlene was predeceased by her parents, a sister Marilyn Loomis, her husband Lawrence I. Stoddard and daughter Angela Stoddard and a very dear friend of 21 years Edwin R. Meneely, Jr.

She will be missed by her children William (Donna) of Granville, George (Sherry) of Whitehall, Lawrence of Georgia, Norman of Granville, Yvonne of Granville and Irene Rathbun (Ted Straight) of Whitehall. She was blessed with six grandchildren Shelby, Ryan, Alexis, Tanner, Christopher and Jasmine and two great-grandchildren Asa and Caylin. Marlene also is survived by her siblings Gary Douglas (Pat) of Granville, Wayne of Argyle and Delores Corlew of Gansevoort.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. at the VFW Post 1653 at 9 North St., Granville.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Robert M. King Funeral Home, 23 Church St., Granville.
