Whitehall, New York – Alan G. Houghtby, 78, passed away in the Glens Falls Hospital on Tuesday, Nov, 2, 2021, after a short illness and long decline with dementia.
He was married to Jean Marie Liddiard for 27 years before her passing. He was later married to Vera Bingham for 10 years before her passing.
Al had many different jobs in his life, including working as a corrections officer for 25 years and owning Al’s Gun Shop in Whitehall.
He enjoyed competition shooting, downhill skiing, and he and his wife Vera made several skiing trips to Italy. He also enjoyed riding both his motorcycle and bicycle to keep in shape.
He enjoyed all of these activities so much before having dementia.
Al could often be seen at the different establishments, sitting at the end of the bar, enjoying a cold beer and good conservation with friends.
Although he never had a lot of formal education, he stressed the importance of it to his children and grandchildren.
Alan is predeceased by his son Charles Houghtby and his two wonderful wives.
He is survived by his son George Houghtby of Whitehall, daughter Trisha Brown (Eric) of Little Meadows, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Kristopher Houghtby of Whitehall, Douglas Warren of Colorado, Charles, Cassandra and Amber Houghtby of Glens Falls, New York, Alex and Ryan Brown of Athens, Pennsylvania; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
