Hartford rolls on in volleyball

By Keith Harrington

As the fall sports season winds down, one thing that is relatively certain is that the Hartford volleyball team will be one of the final local teams still playing. The Tanagers are a regular in the sectional volleyball Final Four, and sometimes beyond.

The fourth-seeded Tanagers cruised into the Section II Class D volleyball semifinals Friday night with a 3-0 sweep of fifth-seed Waterford at the Ella Colvin Gymnasium.

Set scores were 25-11, 25-15, 25-14.

Hartford was scheduled to face top-seed Galway in Wednesday’s semifinals at Ballston Spa, hoping to set up a rematch with either Lake George or Argyle. Those Adirondack League foes meet in the other semifinal match.

Waterford went unbeaten in Wasaren League play and earned the circuit championship, but the Fordians proved to be no match for Hartford.

Karlee Nims was a dominant force at the net for the Tanagers. Nims had 16 kills and six digs for Hartford. Most of her kills were thunderous, powerful swings from the frontline.

Sarah Monroe added 11 kills and seven digs for the Tanagers. Izzy French contributed 15 assists and six digs while Gabbie McFarren: had 10 digs and four aces.

Taylor Cosentino had eight service points, three kills and four digs for the Fordians. Skyler Kennedy chipped in six service points, five kills, five blocks and six assists. Chelsea Palmer had eight digs.

Hartford is now 11-3, 15-4. Waterford ends its season 12-2.
