Donald O. Parry, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. Born in Granville, New York, to his late parents Owen, and Sarah (Lewis) Parry, Donald graduated from Granville High School in 1945. He enlisted in the United States Navy at 17 and served during World War II. After his service he attended Bryant College, receiving his bachelor’s degree in accounting.
Donald worked for General Electric in Schenectady for 36 years as a federal tax accountant until he retired in 1987.
Don married Carmel Peters from Fort Edward in 1958 at St. Joseph’s Church. They were happily married for 63 years.
Throughout his life, Donald stayed active. He was proud of his home and took pride in his yard and garden. He loved his home in Scotia, surrounded by the best neighbors and friends.
He loved summering at his camp on Lake St. Catherine in Wells, Vermont, with his family. After retiring, he experienced a once-in-a-lifetime journey traveling across the United States by train; it was one of his fondest memories. You could often find Donald tinkering around his home or camp or doing crossword puzzles.
Donald didn’t like to spend money on himself but was very generous to his family and numerous charities. He volunteered for several years for the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia.
His family meant everything to him. He is survived by his loving wife Carmel Parry; his son Michael (Christine) Parry of Gloversville; grandchildren Marie Parry of St. Albans, Vermont, and David (Hannah) Parry of Boston, Massachusetts; great-granddaughter Ava Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. Donald was predeceased by his sisters Mavis Dudla and Grace Ross.
