Whitehall loses, 2-1, in girls soccer

By Keith Harrington

Whitehall girls, who saw their Fall II soccer season end in the Adirondack League playoffs’ third-place game at the hands of Hadley-Luzerne, began this season seeking to avenge that penalty-kicks loss. But it wasn’t to be as Hadley-Luzerne rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to edge the Railroaders 2-1.

In the previous meeting the teams played more than 100 minutes without scoring, forcing the contest to PKs. It looked as though the scoreless streak would be extended a bit longer but the Railroaders were able to break through.

Madison Gould converted a pass from Jayden Hughes to give Whitehall a 1-0 lead with just one second remaining in the first half.

In the second 40 minutes Whitehall kept the Eagles’ offense in check until late. Hadley-Luzerne finally got the equalizer with 9:26 to go when Hannah Johnson scored with an assist from Carolina Lott-Diamond to tie the game at 1-1.

Less than a minute later Hadley-Luzerne scored the game-winner. Kayden Williams scored off an assist from Tori Granger to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead with 8:51 remaining.

Madison Lent had seven saves in goal for Hadley-Luzerne. Dory Gosselin stopped seven shots for Whitehall.

Hadley-Luzerne raised its mark to 2-0. Whitehall is 0-1.
