Tanagers fall in soccer opener, 3-0

By Keith Harrington

The Hartford boys soccer team opened the season facing a tall order on Friday, squaring off with perennial Adirondack League and Section II contender Lake George. The Tanagers put up a fight but the offense of the Warriors’ Sam Knauf and the performance by goalie Yogi Johnson was too much to overcome.

Knauf tallied a hat trick and Johnson came up with a couple of huge saves to earn the shutout as Lake George fashioned a 3-0 victory.

Knauf scored a pair of first half goals for the Warriors. He gave Lake George a 1-0 lead just 8:13 into the game and extended it to two goals at the 38:39 mark with his second goal.

Knauf rounded out the scoring by finding the back of the net in the second half at the 54:19 mark to complete the hat trick.

Yogi Johnson earned the shutout in goal for Lake George with six saves.

Austin Wells stopped five shots for the Tanagers.

Lake George is 1-0, 2-0. Hartford is 0-1, 0-1.
