Hartford closes with three softball wins

After earning there first win of the season over North Warren a week earlier, the Hartford-Fort Edward softball team got two more shots at the Cougars last week in a home-and-home series. Hartford-Fort Edward took full advantage as they swept North Warren in a pair of crossover games to finish their rebuilding season on a three-game winning streak.

On Wednesday Hartford-Fort Edward made the long trek to Chestertown worthwhile as the team cruised past North Warren 12-1. The Flying Tanagers pounded out a season-high 20 hits in the contest.

The game was scoreless after two innings, but Hartford-Fort Edward gained control in the third with a seven-run inning.

Gabby McFarren had a huge game for Hartford-Fort Edward. McFarren was 5 for 5 on the day at the plate with a home run.

Mattison Viele was 3 for 5 for the Flying Tanagers. Moriah Normandin and Ava Nadeau tripled. Normandin finished 3 for 4 on the day.

Viele was the winning pitcher. The senior gave up just five hits and struck out eight.

Kaitlyn Stonitsch was 2 for 3 for the Cougars. Emma Phelps tripled.

Hartford advanced its mark to 2-8 with the win. North Warren dropped to 0-11.

On Friday North Warren traveled to Hartford for the rematch. It was the third time the teams had met in a week, but the result stayed the same.

Viele earned the win in the circle for the Flying Tanagers, pitching a three-hitter with seven strikeouts.

McFerran smacked two doubles for Hartford-Fort Edward. Abby Newell also doubled.

Hartford-Fort Edward finishes the regular season 3-8. North Warren falls to 0-12.


TanaForts top North Warren, 13-2

The Hartford-Fort Edward baseball team continued to move toward the sectionals playing good baseball, defeating North Warren for the second time in a week, 13-2, in an Adirondack League crossover game.

The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, but that’s all the offense they could muster up.

The TanaForts scored two runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth to seize the advantage. Hartford-Fort Edward added a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Hartford-Fort Edward outhit North Warren 11-7.

Drake Stewart fired a solid game on the mound for the TanaForts. Stewart went the distance, scattering seven hits while striking out 10.

Peyton Ottens led Hartford-Fort Edward at the plate. Ottens went 2 for 3 with a double. He also drew a pair of walks. Ed Amell was 2 for 4 for the TanaForts.

Josh Smith was 2 for 3 for North Warren.

Hartford moved to 5-5 with the win. North Warren fell to 0-10.
