Horde girls, boys sweep in track

The Granville track and field team completed their second straight sweep as both the boys and girls defeated Warrensburg in an Adirondack League meet. The boys edged the Burghers 60-58, while the Granville girls slipped past the Burghers 60-44.
“Today’s meet was our final dual meet of the season, and these kids really came out and gave it their all,” said Granville coach Dani Cosey. “Some very impressive PRs and lots of smiles all around.”
In the boys meet, Isaiah Stevens swept the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Matthew Barlow was second in the 100 and third in the 200.
Ethan Gibbs finished first for Granville in the 400-meter dash. Owen Burnham and Quinn Johnson were 1-2 in the 1600 meters. Johnson won the 3200-meter race.
The Golden Horde 4×800 relay team of Johnson, Joe Smith, Jaxon Torres and Matt Pietryka won their event. Pietryka also placed first in the 400-meter hurdles.
Myles Pauquette took top honors in the high jump.
On the girls side, Granville dominated both the short and long distance running events.
Kaitlyn Panoushek won the 100-meter race, while Laura Arnhold and Alyssa Welner were first and second in the 200 meters. Laura Arnhold, Nicole Arnhold, Welner and Ashley Pratt topped the field in the 4×100 meter relay.
Panoushek claimed the 800-meter race, while Amber Gibbs win both the 1500 and 3000 meters.
Laura Arnhold placed first in the high jump. Nicole Arnhold claimed the top spot in the long jump and triple jump.
This one was a nail-biter, but we pulled off the win in the end,” Cosey said. “I am very happy with how this team has come together in just over a month’s time.”
Horde loses to Salem in softball

After falling to Whitehall in a 10-inning thriller in the Adirondack League Tournament semifinals, the Granville softball team concluded the regular season by dropping a 6-2 decision to Salem in a crossover game last Friday.
A four-run sixth inning allowed the Generals to pull away for the victory.
Salem plated a run in the first and another in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
Granville got a run back in the fourth, but the Generals’ sixth put it away for the Generals.
The Golden Horde added a run in the seventh but could not get any closer.
Sarah McCauliffe scattered seven hits and struck out nine for Salem.
Tory Cary was 3 for 4. Kayla McCauliffe was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Generals. Mackenzie Keys drove in a pair of runs.
Lauren Bascom recorded 13 strikeouts for the Golden Horde.
Hannah Ingleston was 2 for 4 at the plate for Granville. Bascom, Katie McEachron and Haley Corlew also had hits.
Salem heads into the sectionals 7-2, 9-3. Granville is 6-3, 6-5 as they move on to postseason play.
