Paul Francis Hood

Paul Francis Hood, 66, of Summerville, South Carolina, husband of 45 years to Carla Pauline Hood, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Lowcountry Community Hospice House in Summerville after a courageous battle with cancer.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 1 to 2 p.m. at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, 28 Sumter Ave., Summerville. A funeral mass will begin at 2 p.m. at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church.

Mr. Hood was born Oct. 6, 1954, in Granville, New York, son of the late Philip John Hood and Mary Louise Amell Hood. Mr. Hood received his bachelor’s degree in science and chemistry from the State University of New York, Albany. He was a product engineer with Albany International and retired after 36 years.

After retirement he opened a home improvement company called Hood Home Services for five years. Mr. Hood enjoyed golfing, traveling, fishing and meeting new people and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be missed and loved by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Our family would like to especially thank Dr. Douglas Michaelsen of Charleston Oncology, Dr. Margaret MacDowell of the Trident Cancer Center and its entire staff for the kind, compassionate and dedicated care bestowed on Paul over the past five months’ journey. The caring staff at Lowcountry Community Hospice House eased his final days and brought comfort to the family.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years Carla; one daughter and one son: Elena E. Hood of James Island and Jason H. Hood of Summerville; one sister and three brothers: Veronica Visker (the late Dirk) of Latham, New York, Edward Hood (Jo) of Wilmington, New York, James Hood (William Shay) of Wellfleet, Massachusetts and Phillip Hood (Jean) of Winchester, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law Denise Oliansky of West Seneca, New York.
