Hartford runners perform well

The Hartford cross country team ran well in a couple of meets last week. The Tanagers competed against Hadley-Luzerne for the second time this year on Tuesday. On Friday Hartford challenged Warrensburg on Corinth’s course.

Hartford was incomplete in both the boys and girls races at Hadley-Luzerne, but the Tanagers had some good individual performances.

In the boys race Bryton Mandigo came across the line third with an 19:07. Hongxu Qian was sixth with a 20:24. Mike Smith was eighth for the Tanagers with a 23:04 followed by Justin Nix in ninth with a 24:44.

On the girls side Hartford’s Brynn Tyler 20:27 finished second with a 20:27. Emmaline Barker was sixth with a 31:05 and Kayla Livingston seventh with a 37:58.

The Tanagers rounded out the week on Friday against Warrensburg. Hartford and the Burghers were both incomplete in the boys and girls races.

In the boys race Mandigo again led the Tanagers, placing fourth with an 18:27. Qian was fifth with a 20:18. Smith was eighth with a 23:01. Nix finished ninth with a 23:59.

Tyler claimed the win in the girls race. The Tanagers’ seventh-grader Brynn Tyler recorded a time of 20:43 to lead the pack.

Barker was fifth with a 30:46. Livingston placed seventh with a 34:45.


Tanagers blank Salem in boys soccer

The Hartford boys soccer team blanked Salem 2-0 in an Adirondack League contest on Monday.

The Tanagers scored a goal in each half and the defense was solid in front of goalie Austin Wells.

Nate Fiske gave Hartford a 1-0 lead at the 19:37 mark on an assist from Logan Reynolds.

Ray Harrington extended the lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal to put it away with less than five minutes remaining.

Wells had two saves for Hartford. Samuel McAlonie stopped 14 shots for Salem.

Hartford raised their mark to 5-3, 5-3. Salem dropped to 0-6-1, 0-6-1.

On Friday, the Tanagers hosted Hadley-Luzerne and put up a strong battle, but the Eagles were able to pull out a 2-0 victory in Adirondack League play.

Hadley-Luzerne took a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the game on a goal by Brock Quillan from around 25 yards out.

Hadley-Luzerne added a second goal with 28 minutes to go in the game as Quillan found Caleb Granger with a pass to give the Eagles a 2-0 advantage.

Zack Caldwell had three saves for Hadley-Luzerne. Austin Wells recorded just on save for Hartford.

Hadley-Luzerne is now 8-2, 8-2. Hartford slipped to 5-4, 5-4.


Hartford wins 2, loses 2

It was a busy week for the Hartford volleyball team as the Tanagers played four matches, going 2-2. Hartford defeated Fort Edward and Granville and fell to Argyle and Lake George in Adirondack League play.

On Monday, the Tanagers topped Fort Edward 3-1. Set scores were 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23.

Sarah Monroe had 12 digs and six kills for Hartford. Karlee Nims added 17 kills and three blocks. Raeghan Liebig contributed five kills, three aces and seven digs. Gabbie McFarren had 16 digs and Hannah Lawrence served seven aces.

Lilly Newell paced the Flying Forts with 20 assists, six kills, two aces and one block. Amya Thompkins chipped in five kills and 15 digs.

Hartford was 9-2, 10-2 after the win. Fort Edward dropped to 5-5.

On Tuesday, the Argyle volleyball team cooled off Hartford’s recent hot streak, topping the Tanagers 3-0 in Adirondack League play. Set scores were 25-18,28-26,25-11.

Gretta Schneider had 14 kills, 14 digs and two aces. Katie Lindsay had assists, 11 digs and two kills. Lilly Kingsley had 20 digs and three aces. Lily Prevost contributed 10 assists, five kills and seven digs.

No Hartford stats were reported.

Argyle moved to 10-2, 10-2. Hartford fell to 9-3, 10-3.

On Thursday, Hartford defeated Granville 3-0. Set scores were 25-15, 25-23 and 25-9.

No other details were reported.

Hartford raised its mark to 10-3, 11-3. Granville fell to 3-9, 3-9.

The Tanagers closed out the week with a 3-0 loss at the hands of unbeaten Lake George. Set scores were 25-7, 25-15 and 25-15.

Alli Zilm had an outstanding match for the Warriors with 30 assists, eight service points, three aces and five digs. Jazzy Burke had 15 kills and four digs, while Cassi Wagemann added 16 digs and six service points.

McFarren led Hartford with 16 digs. Sarah Monroe had 10 kills and 11 digs for the Tanagers. Envy Giroux had eight digs.

Lake George is 13-0, 13-0 after the win. Hartford is 10-4, 11-4.
