Granville, New York – Reverend Ashley Richard Meade, 93, of Granville, New York, died Tuesday morning April 13, 2021, at his residence in Granville.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1928, in Johnsburg, New York, the son of Ashley E. and Leone L. (Loveland) Meade.
Ashley attended Johnsburg Central High School in North Creek, New York, and Westchester Community College, graduating with a degree in construction technology.
In April 1946 he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in Korea for military construction until his honorable discharge in October 1947.
Ashley had been employed by Ciba-Geigy Chemical Plant in Hudson Falls for 22 years.
He was called to the ministry in 1985, taking classes at the Wesley Theological Center. Reverend Meade was the pastor at the United Methodist Church of Fair Haven for 15 years and was a longtime pastor at the Dresden Baptist Church in Clemons, New York. He worked tirelessly improving that sweet little church.
Ashley was a skilled woodworker; his work can be found anywhere from furniture in his family’s homes to house construction. He also ran a family farm for many years.
Survivors include three daughters Elizabeth (Chris) Truso and Julia Meade both of Granville and Jeannette Meade of Saginaw, Texas; three sons Charles (Kim) Meade of Glens Falls, New York, and Joseph Meade and Mathew (Rachel) Meade both of Granville; son-in-law John Thomas of Granville; three sisters Geraldine Britton of Garnet Lake, New York, Betty Sayers of Garnet Lake and Nashua, New Hampshire and Marie Montena of Sodom, New York; two brothers Daniel Meade of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Edwin Meade of Glens Falls; stepchildren John (Kendra) Hollister, David (Penny) Hollister and Brian (Mary) Hollister; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and his special brother-in-law Ed Gordon.
He was predeceased by his first wife Julia Irene (Barney) Meade in 1993 and his second wife Irene Vivian (Galick) Hollister in 2016. He also was predeceased by his daughter Carloyn (Meade) Thomas in 2019, his sister Edna Bellmore, his brother James Meade and his sister Margaret (Peggy) Harrington.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Durfee Funeral Home in Fair Haven, Vermont. Funeral services will be private for the family directly following the calling hours at the Durfee Funeral Home.
Burial will be held at the Mill Creek Cemetery located on Garnet Lake Road in Johnsburg, New York.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ashley to the Granville Rescue Squad, High Peaks Hospice, Whitehall Food Pantry or Whitehall Central School Backpack Program.
Ashley’s final years were better lived residing with his daughter Elizabeth with the love, support and care from his daughter Julie. Throughout the past several years Elizabeth held up the true meaning of unconditional love of a daughter. This transition and time at Elizabeth’s was supported by his special daughter-in-law Penny. She supplied support, strength, laughter and love to Ashley and his daughters.
