In 2020 the annual Sasquatch Festival that takes place every September was canceled thanks to COVID-19.

Just days into 2021, the planning process has begun for this year’s festival.

Sasquatch Festival coordinator Barbara Spoor established a Facebook group calling on anyone who is interested in volunteering to help put on the festival this year, which will take place on Sept. 25.

“I’m really hoping we will be able to make this year’s festival happen, but I still want to be sure we can make it a safe event for everyone involved,” Spoor said.

The Sasquatch Festival attracts people from across the country, and with the emergence of COVID-19 in 2020 there are procedures and protocols that need to be followed.

Whitehall’s annual Sasquatch Festival attracts people from all over the country. After missing out on the event in 2020 Barbara Spoor looks to get a head start on the planning process.

Spoor is hoping to get a head start with the preparation.

“There will be a bit more work involved in planning,” she said. “But we will make it work!”

As of now the festival is penciled in to take place at Skenesborough Park like always, and will start at 10 a.m.

Spoor created the volunteer group on Jan. 3, and so far there are 13 members, and others have been reaching out asking how they can get involved, Spoor said.

She said that the response has been great.

“There are a lot of people offering their hand to make the festival great, and it is much appreciated,” she said. “Anyone who would like to volunteer is more than welcome to help. We can use all the help we can get.”

Whitehall has been through a lot over the past year with the pandemic and other events that have ravaged the community.

Spoor said that she is appreciative of her community.

“It brings me so much joy to be able to coordinate an event that brings people together in our beautiful small town,” she said.

If you are interested in getting involved in any capacity you can reach out to Barbara Spoor on Facebook to join the volunteer group and learn more information.
