Granville’s annual Operation Adopt A Soldier Benefit Concert is this Sunday.
Local singer-songwriter Phil Hoyt will perform a free concert on Sept. 11 from noon to 3 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Park on Quaker Street.
“Come support a good cause and listen to some good traditional country and military songs,” Hoyt said.
There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas, water and desserts for sale, along with a 50/50 drawing and raffles. Prizes include two Telescope director chairs, an oak stand from Manchester Wood, a $20 gift card to Ma & Pa’s, a $25 gift card to Warner’s, two passes to Fort Ticonderoga, two 20-pound tank fills from Shaw Propane, a $25 gift card to Laflames, and assorted gift baskets.
All proceeds will go to Operation Adopt A Soldier to fund care packages for the troops.
There will also be a plane fly-over and military vehicles on display.
This is the fifth year Hoyt has hosted this benefit concert. He hosted free concerts to commemorate Sept. 11 for years before, but decided to team up with Operation Adopt A Soldier five years ago.
“I thought, ‘If I’m going to have free concerts, why not try to raise some money while doing it,’” Hoyt said.
Donations will also be accepted at the concert. Monetary donations and care package items including gum, trail mix, books, tissues, cough drops and more will be collected. For a list of additional items, visit operationadoptasoldier.org/items.
“The donations are fantastic,” Hoyt said. Last year, more than $3,000 was raised and several items were collected.
Donations can also be mailed to Operation Adopt A Soldier c/o Phil Hoyt 253 Truthville Road, Granville, New York, 12832.
