Voters in the Village of Whitehall will go to the polls next Wednesday but there won’t be any mystery about the outcome, as all three candidates are running unopposed.

Balloting at the Town Municipal Center on Skenesborough Drive will begin at noon and end at 9 p.m.

On the mayoral ticket, the only candidate is current trustee Ken Bartholomew, a Republican with seven years on the board, who is running to succeed Mayor Peter Telisky, a Democrat. Telisky announced late last year that he would not seek reelection.

Bartholomew said he would have been content to remain a trustee if Telisky had run.

Nobody has emerged as a candidate for the seat Bartholomew will be vacating on the board, which leaves Bartholomew the authority to either appoint someone or leave the seat vacant after he becomes mayor.

Trustee Marge Mohn declared she is seeking reelection for a second four-year term. The Democrat oversees the Wastewater Department and the Parks Department, as well as serving as deputy mayor.

Meanwhile when trustee Mike LaChapelle, a Democrat who serves as public works commissioner, announced he would not seek reelection after decades in office, initially nobody emerged as a candidate for his seat until former Mayor Pat Norton threw her hat into the ring. Norton, a Republican, will be running unopposed.

Trustee Walt Sandford will remain on the board, as his term is not up for reelection this year.

The current board has four Democrats, Telisky, Mohn, Sandford and LaChapelle, and one Republican, Bartholomew. After the elections, the board will have two Democrats, Mohn and Sandford, two Republicans, Bartholomew and Norton, and one vacant seat, to be appointed by Bartholomew.
