John Glendon LaRose, 83

LaRose,_John-1John Glendon LaRose, 83, of Hatch Hill Road, passed away into the arms of the Lord on Monday, April  7, 2014, at Indian River Nursing Home while recuperating from surgery.

 

Born Jan. 1, 1931, in Volcano, Calif., he was the son of the late Clifford C. and Gladys (Manell) LaRose.

 

John loved spending time with his loving family, camping, traveling, reading, tending to his four cats, and tinkering with things.

 

John entered the Navy at age 17, and rose to the rank of Master Senior Chief Petty Officer, retiring after 30 years and completing eight world tours. He then worked as a Washington County Sheriff, became a Sergeant and then Civil Officer, and retired after 25 years of service.

 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years Marion S. Grant LaRose, who died Oct. 10, 2012, his daughters Ellen Jean LaRose and Donna LaRose Emond, his step-father Marcellus Juckett, his brothers Ronald, Donald, and Francis, and sister Doris Belden.

 

John is survived by his son, Clifford J. and a very special daughter-in-law, Annie; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Peter, Victoria, Catherine, David, and Susie; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Ronald Belden, sisters-in-law Dorothy LaRose, Ann C. LaRose, and Evelyn Poy; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and two very special friends, Lenny Reed and Debbie Carswell, who he loved very much.

 

At John’s request, there will be no calling hours.

 

A graveside service , with full military honors, will be conducted on May 3, 2014 at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery at a time to be announced.

 

A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the interment at the family home.

 

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation in John’s name to Skenesborough Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 333, Whitehall, NY 12887.

 

We wish to give a special thank you to his doctors, Dr. Joseph Mihindu and Dr. Bain, for all the wonderful care they provided him. Their care and kindness will never be forgotten.
