Frosty Derby this weekend

The annual Frosty Derby is back again for its 31st year and will take place on Lake St. Catherine one day only on March 2.

Aspiring fishermen can embark on the ice, as long as they have their derby ticket, as early as 6 a.m. starting at the Lake St. Catherine State Park on Sunday morning until 4 p.m. when the scales close.

Entry into the event its $10 for adults and $5 for any children looking to participate. Tickets can be purchased at Tom’s Bait and Tackle in Castleton, Cones Point Country Market in Poultney and at headquarters the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased up to 11 a.m. on Sunday at any location.

Contestants will look to catch four different species of fish: trout, pike, bass, and perch. The top three fish of each species will garner a prize.

For adults the prizes are strictly cash but children with be given trophy’s and be able to stand on a podium and have their pictures taken along with cash.

Food will be available for purchase at the headquarters.
