Individual wrestlers place on Saturday

Granville’s wrestling team suffered a last-match defeat to rival Whitehall last Thursday.

Granville held a seven-point lead entering the final two matches but was unable to pull out the victory as Whitehall rallied for the 36-34 win.

Daegan Jones, wrestling at 132 pounds, picked up the only pin for Granville and Dwayne Nadeau (285) and William Duffy (99) won their matches 5-3 and 14-6 respectively. Granville also picked up three forfeit wins.

Granville wrestlers fared better at the Coach Ken Baker Classic last month.

Bradley Perry claimed a first placing going 3-0 with two pins and one 3-1 decision at 170. And Damian Duffy, at 152, was close behind going 2-1 for second place. He won by three decisions, including an 8-4, a 4-2 and a 4-1.

William Duffy, 99, Nathaniel Palmer, 138, and Dwayne Nadeau, 285, all snagged a fourth place as well. Duffy had a pin and an overtime 5-3 win, Palmer won by pin in three bouts and Nadeau claimed two pins.

Devin Cohan also won by pin in a quick 55 second match.

The grapplers will host the Class C tournament this Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
