Monday, July 29 came and went, but the pile of rubble on Main Street still stands.
This time, it is a mechanical issue standing in the way of debris removal, officials said.
Two weeks ago Edgeco Environmental, Inc., the company hired for the cleanup, told attorney John Winn, who is representing Beverly Koffler, one of the burned buildings’ owners, that work would begin this past Monday.
Monday morning, however, Winn received a call from the company.
“They told me they had problem with their equipment, and they needed to get that fixed,” Winn said. He said the company told him next Monday, Aug. 5, is the new start date.
Though it didn’t push back removal, there was one more piece of documentation that needed to be addressed.
In order for TD Bank to allow Edgeco to manipulate machinery behind its building, both sides had to sign a contract that was drawn up. The bank was concerned with which roadway Edgeco would use to access the property.
Bank Manager Peter O’Brien said the agreement ensures that if Edgeco’s equipment causes any damage to the building they will be responsible for it. The contract was created and signed by both sides promptly and without problem.
Local and outside officials have been putting in much effort to see that the pile, which has been in place since the Nov. 12 fire, is removed as quickly as possible, but various issues and regulations have continued to crop up.
Repeated attempts to contact Edgeco and confirm cleanup plans were not returned as of Tuesday afternoon.
