One person was killed and five others were injured in a multi-vehicle car accident on State Route 22 near Dorance Road in Hebron Saturday night.

Initial investigation indicated that 44-year-old Ora Roaix, of Granville, was traveling south on State Route 22 when her vehicle, a 2002 Infiniti, crossed into the northbound lane and struck another vehicle just before 10 p.m.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2002 Kia, 43-year-old Lisa D. Martin, of North Adams, Mass., was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington County Coroner James Gariepy, according to police.

Granville resident Logan Hall, 20, was driving by and happened upon the scene. He stopped to assist the victims, and was standing next to Roaix’s vehicle, which had come to rest on its side across both lanes, when a third vehicle came over the crest of the hill and could not stop in time to avoid Roaix’s car.

That vehicle, a 2004 Ford, driven by 87-year-old Dorothy Brace of West Pawlet, struck Roaix’s vehicle and pushed it into Hall, who was injured and had to be transported by ambulance to Glens Falls Hospital, where he was treated and released. Brace also suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, as was her passenger, 87-year-old Lois Nelson, of Granville.

Roaix and Martin’s passenger, 44-year-old Mark Mattison of South Glens Falls, were both injured and had to be transported to Albany Medical Center by helicopter, police said.

A cause for the accident had not yet been determined as of Tuesday afternoon, but preliminary investigation found no sign of alcohol involvement, and police are continuing to investigate the accident.

Assisting the New York State Police at the scene were the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the Granville Police Department, Granville and Hebron fire departments, as well as EMS from Fort Ann, Granville, Fair Haven and Salem. New York State Police Accident Reconstruction is also assisting in the investigation.
