As the district scrambles to finish out the school year between testing, field trips and various activities, the senior class anxiously awaits a moment they’ve been leading up to for 12 years: graduation.
The ceremony is slated to take place next Friday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the high school on the lawn, weather permitting. In the case of rain the event will be held inside in the high school gymnasium. All students will receive two tickets for the outdoor chair area with unlimited lawn space for blankets and bring-your-own lawn chairs.
If the event does have to move indoors, each student will get six tickets for the chair area on the gym floor and there will be a first come, first serve seated bleacher area.
For either an indoor or outdoor ceremony there will be a live broadcast of the ceremony available in the auditorium for any other overflow, said graduation coordinators Sanda Weber and Laura Colombo.
As part of the commencement, several students and officials will speak, including valedictorian Christina Rice, salutatorian Katelynn Leavey, Superintendent Mark Bessen, Principal Jim Donnelly and John Shaw, president of the board of education.
The school band will play “Learn to Fly” by the Foo Fighters, as well as “Pomp and Circumstance” and the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and the senior members of the chorus will sing a song.
Baccalaureate will take place the day before, on Thursday, June 20 at 7 p.m. at the Baptist Church.
More details will be available about graduation ceremony next week.
