Horde softball played hard last week but ended up seeing a loss and a win.

Lauryn Zovistoski gave her all to contribute to Granville’s 6-2 win over Schuylerville on Thursday. She went 4-4 with three singles and a triple, sent one of her teammates home and scored three times. And she wasn’t the only Horde player to shine on the field.

Jordan Harrison scored a run, hit two singles and sent another player home, while winning pitcher Angela Vladyka helped her own cause by hitting a double, a single and one RBI. Amy Baker had a double and an RBI, and Hannah Bassett doubled and sent two girls home as well. Corrine Brown went 3-4 with three singles.

The game started off with two scoreless innings, and saw two more in the fourth and the seventh. It was only in the second that Granville gave the Horses any runs. For Schuylerville, Rachel Baker had two singles, and Jordan Podkladek had one single and pitched the whole game with five strikeouts.

In a last minute upset, Granville lost 7-5 to Tamarac earlier in the week on Tuesday.

In an action-packed second inning, the Horde scored five runs but had none through the rest of the game as the Bengals committed a number of errors. Tamarac picked up five also over several innings and the score was tied at the bottom of the seventh when the Bengals’ Briana Matazinsky hit a homerun sending herself and a teammate home for the win.

Baker doubled for Granville, and Bassett took home the loss from the mound.

Though the girls were slated to play at Glens Falls on Saturday, their game was canceled due to rain.

The team is now 6-5 in the league and 8-6 overall. The girls play their senior game against Hoosic Falls this Friday at 4:15 p.m.
