Whitehall’s softball team dropped a closely contested game to Lake George on Monday evening in the season opener for both teams.

Whitehall managed only four hits and didn’t score a run until the final inning as they fell to the Warriors 3-1.

Amy Sander struck out 10 batters to pick up her first win of the season. Brittney Putorti recorded eight strike outs in a losing effort.

Both pitchers exchanged zeros through the first two innings until Lake George jumped on the score board with a pair of runs in the third inning.

The Railroaders were unable to string any hits together until the final inning.

Trailing 3-0, Whitehall loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but was able to produce only a single run as Lake George held on for the narrow victory.

The Railroaders were also hurt by uncharacteristic four errors in the field.

Whitehall will have a chance to right the ship this evening against Fort Ann before returning home next Monday to face Corinth.
