The Whitehall Drama Club is preparing to stage its annual production and the show will grace the Whitehall stage next weekend.
This year’s production, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” will be staged on March 22 and 23 in the Whitehall High School auditorium and is under the direction of Whitehall choral director Chris Palmer.
The musical, which is based on a 1967 film of the same name, tells the story of Millie Dillmount, a small town girl who goes to New York City during the Roaring Twenties looking to marry a man, not for love, but for money.
Shortly after moving to Whitehall Millie begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle, but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned by the leader of a slavery ring in China.
The production appeared on Broadway in 2002 and subsequently won six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
There are about 35 students involved in this year’s production and the cast has spent the last few months preparing for next weekend’s performances.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22 and 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23. Tickets for the show cost $5 and will be available at Whitehall High School during normal school hours and at the door the days of the performances.
