Girls falls to Warrensburg, Fort Edward; defeat Hartford

The Whitehall girls basketball team was unable to overcome a slow start against Warrensburg Monday night.

The Railroaders were outscored 15-4 in the first quarter and fell to the Burgers by a final score of 30-23.

Erin Langworthy scored a game high 20 points for Warrensburg.

Brittney Putorti scored a team high 10 points for Whitehall.

The Railroaders defense clamped down defensively after allowing 15 points in the first quarter, holding Warrensburg scoreless in the second quarter. Whitehall continued to play strong in the third quarter and entered the final quarter trailing by a single point. But Warrensburg reasserted itself, outscoring the Railroaders 10-4 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.

The game came three days after Whitehall downed Hartford 36-31 on the Tanagers’ home court.

Rebecca Lavin scored all six of her points in the fourth quarter and Whitehall outscored Hartford by six points to pull out the win.

Putorti scored 10 points in that game as well and Ariel Ayers hit three 3-pointers.

Morgan Wicks scored a game high 13 points for Hartford.

Whitehall was held to ten points in the first half and trailed Hartford 14-10 entering the third quarter. But Whitehall scored eight points in the third quarter and 18 in the fourth.

Last Wednesday, an undefeated Fort Edward team beat Whitehall 51-23.

Brittni Sardina scored 17 points for the Forts and teammate Taylor Boucher added 10 more.

Putorti led Whitehall with eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Forts held Whitehall under 10 points in all fourth quarters.

Whitehall is now 7-7 in the Adirondack League and 8-7 overall. The team travels to Fort Ann tomorrow night for its regular season finale.
