Roger Dennison

Roger Laverne “Dubber” Dennison passed away on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2013 at his home with his family by his side, and under the care of Washington County Hospice after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Roger was born on May 4, 1935 in Granville, New York, the son of the late Joseph and Emma (Matteson) Dennison.

 

Roger retired from Norton Sealants in 1997 after 24 years of service. He was an Army Veteran who served from 1954-1957 stationed in Japan. Roger loved going to Scotties for coffee. While at home he liked watching wrestling and old westerns followed by one of Bertha’s home-cooked meals. Roger was a member of VFW Post 1653, American Legion Post 323 and the Modern Woodmen of America.

 

In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his son Roger; brothers, Edwin, James, Timothy and Milford; sisters Ethel, Brenda and Jo Carol. Roger is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bertha (Lewis) Dennison; his two daughters Emma Rivers and her husband Ernie of Granville, and Shirley Slaughter and her husband Elvis of Lansing, Illinois; as well as nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister Dorothy McCullen and her husband James of Granville, and Helen Peters and her husband Fred of Cambridge, and brother Joseph of Granville. Survivors also include his sisters-in-law Erla Dennison and Irene Dennison, as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. He was laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery.
