Lufkin’s record night sinks boys basketball team

The Whitehall boys basketball team likely went to bed last Friday haunted by visions of Argyle’s Joey Lufkin making shot after shot.

Lufkin, the unquestioned leader of an undefeated Argyle squad and the area’s leading scorer, put up 54 points, an Argyle record, in a 96-47 win over Whitehall on Friday night.

Lufkin was 8 for 12 from 3-point range in the game and scored 28 of the Scots’ 35 points in the first quarter. He reached the milestone despite sitting out the game’s final quarter.

Del Pryce added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Argyle.

Justin Hoagland led the Railroaders with 16 points, Josh Hoagland added 12 and Brian McLaughlin scored nine points.

Argyle raced out to a 35-7 lead in the first quarter and led 60-23 at halftime. The Scots scored another 22 points in the third quarter.

Argyle, which has been one of the better teams in the Adirondack League for the last several years, improved to 7-0 and is the league favorite at the halfway point of the season.

Whitehall fell to 2-5 in the league and overall.

The Railroaders host Warrensburg tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
