Volunteer spearheads cleanup of park on Oct. 6

There will be fall cleanup day at the Skenesborough Canalside Park beginning at noon on Saturday, Oct. 6.

A concerned and involved volunteer, who wishes to remain anonymous, is heading up a work force to get the park in better shape. This volunteer has spent many hours cleaning up brush and invasive plants in and around the park and would like to get the community involved and make the cleanup an annual event.

He and other volunteers are hoping the effort will cause the community to embrace and care for the park

Community-minded citizens interested in helping clean up the park are welcome to lend a helping hand. It would be helpful if volunteers provided their own gloves, tools (pruning shears, rakes, shovels, etc.) and eye protection. All levels of expertise are welcome and needed.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date will be announced on the local television station the night before.

A barbecue will be held at the park pavilion at 5:30 p.m. to thank the volunteers who helped.

Additional events are planned for the coming year and a grand reopening celebration will be held when the canal opens next spring.
