Whitehall’s soccer team opened its Adirondack League season last week with losses to perennial power Lake George and Salem.

The Railroaders fell to Lake George 4-1 on Sept. 11 as Kelsey Alfonso scored two goals and an assist.

Brittney Putorti tallied Whitehall’s lone goal on a penalty kick after Carianna Jones was fouled near the box.

Kelsey Farley made nine saves in net for Whitehall.

Two days later, the Railroaders made the drive south to face Salem and, despite creating far more shots on goal, lost 2-1.

Caroline McKeighan and Acadia LeBlanc both scored for the Generals and goalie Briana Morris made 22 saves.

Rebecca Lavin scored for Whitehall with Jones recording the assist.

The Railroaders outshot Salem 22-7 but couldn’t put the ball in the net.

“We had our chances,” said head coach Ceil Brandi. “It’s frustrating; the girls were frustrated. We had the opportunities but we couldn’t finish. Their goalie did a nice job.”

The team was hurt by a pair on injuries suffered in the Granville game that forced Brandi to make some changes in the lineup.

Jacklyn Raino who plays in the middle of the field for Whitehall is expected to miss a few weeks with a leg injury and Farley, the team’s starting goalie, missed the Salem game with an injury.

The Railroaders will face a stiff test this evening against Bolton, which defeated Lake George 7-2 last week.

The game will be played at 4:30 p.m. behind the Whitehall Elementary School.
