Portion of Route 4 to be paved

A section of highway in Whitehall will receive repairs after it was included in a multi-million contract awarded by the New York State Department of Transportation as part of a New York Works project.

The DOT announced last week that Route 4 between Ryder Road and Seventh Avenue in the village of Whitehall was one of 21 roadways in Rensselaer, Washington, Albany, and Columbia counties that will be repaved as part of a $13.1 million contact awarded to Callanan Industries, Inc. of Albany.

The contract was part of $51.4 million in contracts released by the DOT for construction projects on 30 roads and bridges across the state.

The New York Works program was included in the 2012-13 state budget and allows DOT to address infrastructure deficiencies and guard against more costly repairs in the future.

An exact date for the paving work hasn’t been announced, but it could begin as early as next month.
