Another record falls to Ferguson

PJ Ferguson continues to set school records.

A week after breaking theWhitehallschool record in the boys 1600 meter race,Fergusonset the bar even higher, improving upon his own record last Saturday at an Indoor Track League meet, held atHudsonValleyCommunity College. 

Fergusonbroke the previous record of5:29, set by Mickey Bezio in 2009, by 13 seconds when he ran a5:16race on Dec. 2 and shaved another six seconds off his own record last weekend.

Despite the record,Fergusonwas well behind eventual winner Jeremy Spiezio who won in a time of4:42. The top six runners all finished in less than 4:54.

Toran Tracy finished the 1600 meters in5:44, improving on the previous weeks performance by about a second.

As a team the boys finished eighth out of eight teams.

The girls were once again paced by senior Marion Gendron who finished sixth in the 300 meter dash with a time of 50.7 and fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 26-08.5.

She scored all three points for the girls who finished ninth out of nine teams.

Despite a pair of last place finishes, the team showed improvement across the board as multiple athletes improved on last weeks times.

Victoria Koeble and Haley Wiskoski, competing in the girls 1,000 meters, were seven and 13.5 seconds faster, respectively, than they were the week before. Wiskoski also shaved a half second off her time in the 55 meter dash.

Maggie Benjamin and Janelle Cahee added several feet onto their performance in the girl’s shot put and Dylan Morril cut more than four seconds off his time in the 1000 meters.

The team will compete in the third league meet of the season at1:45 p.m.on Sunday, Dec. 18 atHudsonValleyCommunity College.
