Whitehall Elementary School to participate in reading program

Educators at the Whitehall Elementary School are about to begin a program they hope will foster a lifelong passion for reading.

On Nov. 15, the 1000 books reading program will begin for students in preschool through second grade.

The mission of this Book Club program is to provide quality literature students while
fostering both a love of reading and a connection between home and school.

A letter explaining the program and a registration form was sent home with children last week and the forms must be filled out and returned to the school in order for children to participate.

Organizers are hoping to register as many students for the program as they can.

Research has shown that the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children so parents are encouraged to read with their children during the program.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help us out, please contact the elementary school at 499-0330 and leave a message for Annette Parrott.
