Evelyn Lorrraine Leggett, 84, of Broadway, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Pleasant Valley Infirmary in Argyle after a short illness.

Born in Whitehall on September 25, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Anna (Pike) Leggett .

She was devoted to her family and worked hard, retiring from GE in 1991 after thirty years of service.  She enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards, reading, swimming and loved to walk.

She was a charter member of the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion for 54 years.

She leaves behind two children, her devoted son, Gary F. Leggett of Whitehall with whom she resided until very recently and a daughter, Carole (Leggett) Plimpton and her husband, Randy of Shelburne, Vt.; three grandchildren, Eric, Dan and Michelle Plimpton and two great-grandchildren, Josh and Riley Plimpton; three sisters, Jane Gordon of Queensbury, Harriet Jones of Hudson Falls and Ruth Borden and her husband Francis of Huletts Landing.  Also her special family, her brother, Marshall C. Gordon and his wife, Sally and his children, Lori A. Juckett, Marsha A. Ross, Wendy A. Stewart, Kyle M. Gordon, Beth A. Lavin, Korey MJ Gordon, Stephanie A. LaChapelle and Stacy A. Beebe and their families.

The quote in her high school yearbook states how she lived her life “With my whole heart and my whole soul”.

A Requiem Eucharist Mass was  celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Whitehall with Rev. Donna Arnold, pastor, officiating. Interment followed  at Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall. Family and friends were able to  call at the Jillson Funeral Home, Inc.

The family would like to thank Wendy Bailey and her daughters, Alexis and Courtney, Jason Ingleston, Blair Watson, Heather Ruby and Fra and Cheryl Putorti for their concern and kindness.  A special thank you for the staff at Pleasant Valley for their compassion.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Evelyn’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
