Senior Kelsie Benjamin qualified for the state track and field championships in the shot put and will compete for a state title on Saturday, March 5 at Cornell University.

Benjamin needed a personal-best and a school indoor record to qualify, and she hit it exactly, throwing 37 feet, 7 inches in the qualifying round. To qualify, a competitor must finish first or second in the sectional meet or finish third as long as they have met the standard.

Unlike most other sports, the state meet is an open meet. There are no size divisions.

Sam Kosa of Shenendahowa won with a throw at 41-3, and her teammate, Savannah Gordon was second at 41-3.
